Family Game
Night
Directions for a
successful Family Game Night
The Coach
The first thing you must do in implementing a family game night is
to appoint a family game coach this may change every time you have
a family game night or could stay the same. The family game coach
is responsible for planning, setting up, and selecting the game.
Until the family knows how it works it’s great if mom or dad
hold this job.
The Time
The time is key to the success of your family time. The older your
children the more time you’ll need to set aside. Choose a
time where you have a few hours blocked together to invest. Making
time is important. Do not accept phone calls visitors or other
distractions into this time. Pick a day or night during the week to
prevent distractions like Birthday Parties, church activities, or
sports activities. Look at your family schedule to know your busy
times. If your game is not completed in the time frame allowed give
a 15 minute warning to allow your children time to wind down.
The Place
The Place is also the key as your family should be comfortable
where they play. Choosing either a location that the whole family
normally congregates (i.e. the kitchen table, family room floor) or
a special “game time” only zone (i.e. that dining room
table you never use, or the patio or deck).
Choosing a Game
Pick a game that fits the time frame in which you have. Every now
and then introduce a new game. Family Game Coach has many that are
fun and will also teach you child or tutor him in a subject he may
be struggling. For variety use your Game Plan to shake things
up.
Make it a Special Night
Every now and then make game night special by putting
together a theme night.
